FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Barnoldswick Baptist Centre30 years oldIt was on the 4th June 1977 that the Church Centre on Manchester Road was officially opened. On the 10th June all the congregations from Earby, Salterforth and Barnoldswick will join together to celebrate their work with children and young people at 10-30am. To mark the opening of the Centre and also to mark World Environment Day the church committed to become greener. The Centre already recycles much of the waste through Pendle Council's waste collection scheme but members realised that drinks cartons were not included. The secretary wrote to the council to encourage them to take up the scheme promoted by Tetrapak (Tetrapakrecycling). In reply Pendle Council states that "Lancashire County Council are looking into this and trying to put Tetrapak recycling banks on their Household Waste Recycling Centres". Let's hope Lancashire succeeds! Young people from the church have campaigned for many years on such issues. In order to drastically reduced the energy consumed at the Centre many light fittings are being changed to new highly efficient low energy lamps. This follows work carried out last summer to install double glazing in many areas. For More Information Contact: |
